Our respected networking technology client has an ongoing need for multiple experienced Contract Editors who have worked hands-on with topic-based XML content in a non-WYSIWYG authoring environment.
You’ll work independently, entirely offsite, performing developmental and copy edits on XML content (both technical documentation and marketing material). You’ll optimize content for re-use, ensuring that it is appropriately tagged and categorized by topic and subtopic, and that it conforms to a detailed corporate style guide and term list. Some of this content was created by non-native (eastern European) English speakers.
This work requires occasional availability during US business-hours (so you can get quick answers to your queries), and is scheduled no more than a couple weeks in advance. Our client has very high standards for its content, and requires strict adherence to its schedule once you accept a given assignment (even though the client’s start dates sometimes aren’t guaranteed).
If you’ve got professional editing experience in the technology industry and have worked in raw XML (not necessarily DITA), you’ll likely be offered formal training on the client’s style guide, term list, and related processes. For this training you’ll be paid for up to 8 hours of your time, even though the instruction may last longer. When projects arrive, trained editors will be offered appropriate assignments at a specified hourly rate and, if they commit, will be held accountable for successful and timely completion regardless of the client’s actual start date.
All else being equal, candidates with a strong understanding of networking technology will be offered assignments first.
