This position will be a contracted position for 1 year. Not eligible for county benefits. Eligible for Wisconsin Retirement.
Hours are: Wednesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for 40 hours per week.
Position is required to participate in a rotation and be available for on-call status up to 2 weekends per month.
This position performs skilled mechanical work of a varied nature in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, boiler/chiller equipment, and buildings.
The employee in this class is required to diagnose problems and make repairs to HVAC machinery, plumbing, electrical wiring, boilers/chillers, and physical structure. The work requires mechanical ability of a high degree of skill in performing a variety of tasks in maintaining and repairing the facilities and equipment. The employee in this class is expected to have the skills to work alone with little supervision. Occasionally may work in inclement weather or be requested to work off hours.
Examples of Duties:
Diagnoses, repairs, maintains, cleans and replaces parts as needed.
Maintains and repairs condensate pumps, feedwater pumps, heating coils, fans and piping on the heating system. Conducts chemical analysis of boiler water to determine appropriate amounts of chemical needed.
Operates air conditioning and auxiliary systems, cleans or replaces filters, changes belts, and makes adjustments to repair the air conditioning system.
Lubricates and cleans shafts, bearings, gears, and all other parts of the machinery.
Inspects and tests fire alarm, sprinkler system, water softeners, and roof on regular P.M. Maintains and makes repairs to machinery, dismantling equipment to gain
access to defective parts and to complete repairs using proper tools and proven techniques. Observes mechanical devises on daily rounds and listens to their sounds to locate any problems, and make appropriate repairs.
Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work on all existing buildings, facilities and equipment.
Provides after hours "On Call" services as required or assigned.
Operates maintenance vehicles, grounds, lawn care and snow removal equipment;
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School or equivalent. Advanced education or training and three to five years experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating/ventilation/air conditioning, 480 volt 3 phase electrical systems, plumbing, fire alarm systems and all other building/mechanical systems.
Preferred candidates will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC and professional working experience in building maintenance.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Thorough knowledge of tools and the skill in the use of tools.
Mechanical ability and experience in the maintenance of buildings and all mechanical devices.
Ability to interact and communicate well with other staff, supervisors, nursing home residents and their families, jail inmates, and the general public.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
Position will require an authorization for a background check.
