Alfred University seeks applicants for the position of Controller. Reporting to the Vice President for Business & Finance, the Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions of the University; day-to-day oversight of the Business Office, which includes accounts payable, general accounting, student accounts and investment accounting; treasury and cash management; audit and compliance activities.
A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; Master’s degree in accounting or finance and a CPA license preferred. Additional requirements include: a strong work ethic, integrity, and sound judgment, strong supervisory and leadership skills, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work with various stakeholders across the institution. Strong database and spreadsheet proficiency required; demonstrated knowledge of Banner and SUNY system a plus. Must have experience with financial statement preparation and knowledge in the area of tax issues in higher education.
Successful applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in large, complex organizations, including strong managerial skills. Prior experience in the finance operation of a higher education system or other not-for-profit is preferred.
