CONTROLLER

Summary:

Residential Solar Solutions (RSS) is a wholly owned subsidiary for NRG Energy, Inc. NRG is a Fortune 500 and S&P 500 Index Company which owns and operates one of the country's largest and most diverse power generation portfolios. As part of the NRG Energy Company, RSS focuses on Residential Solar via partnerships and leasing programs. The Controller will establish and maintain financial policies and procedures by providing operational and administrative leadership to planning, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis. He or she will also provide financial advice and leadership needed to effectively support a dynamic, rapidly growing business. The individual will also interact closely with all functions within the business unit as well with certain corporate functions of NRG including, accounting, FP&A, treasury, legal, and tax. This position reports to the CFO and is based in Emeryville, California or Houston, Texas.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage end-to-end process for procedures related to the Department of Treasury’s 1603 cash grant program including applications, tracking, reconciling, collections, and communication with the DOT. Interface with NRG Corporate tax and legal teams as well as external counsel for any issue resolution
  • Working with corporate FP&A, oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial operating reports to senior management as well as to corporate headquarters. Direct the effective preparation, maintenance, and reporting of internal financial results and analyses
  • Review working capital and cash flow requirements on a regular basis
  • Present operating and capital expenditure budgets and forecasts for review and approval by corporate headquarters
  • Manage and provide primary support for reporting to third party financial institutions
  • Manage all applicable reporting, analysis, and administrative duties as they relate to SRECs and SREC programs within various states
  • Manage rebates and other incentive programs in various state, utility, or municipal programs
  • Manage business unit A/P and A/R functions
  • Develop establish and manage financial qualification criteria for installations partners
  • Develop and drive necessary financial policies, procedures, and strong internal controls. Play a leading role in directing finance change initiatives, including financial reporting systems
  • Manage business relationships with external and internal auditors
  • Proactively develop working relationships and ensure open communications by coordinating accounting activities between the business unit and corporate management. Communicate regularly with corporate accounting, FP&A and tax teams to enhance financial effectiveness, provide financial expertise, and compliance with corporate financial policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Lead discussions regarding the interpretations, rules, and regulations of various accounting regulating authorities to senior management
  • Lead development of the annual plan, including financial objectives and functional team objectives required for successful achievement of the business plan
  • Direct and coordinate the establishment of department budgets
  • Lead the recruitment, training, and development of qualified employees. Communicates job expectations, manages staff performance and fosters a collaborative work environment that motivates productivity. Provides guidance and mentoring for staff

Education:
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting of finance required
  • MBA or other graduate degree or certifications highly desired

Minimum Requirements:
  • 10 years of accounting, analysis, budgeting, planning, and internal and external financial reporting experience is required, preferably at both corporate and division levels of a large company
  • Successful, significant experience as a finance leader at the business unit/divisional level is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, experience with FASB rulings. Knowledge of revenue recognition principals
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office, advanced working experience with MS Excel required
  • Strong analytical and organization skills and superb attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced work environment, manage multiple tasks concurrently

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with and understanding of related auditing and IT functions strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills and outstanding communication capabilities in an environment with solid internal controls is required
  • Understanding of solar, project finance, tax equity structures, solar incentive structures, programs, rebates, tax credits in addition to their impact on accounting issues if any would be highly valued
  • Excellent ability to work cross functions and all levels
  • Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Salesforce.com experience highly desired
