The Corporate Controller is considered a leadership role at Square and responsible for leading the accounting team. This role will also help to define accounting policies, design and implement automation of accounting processes and systems and support international growth. The Controller must have strong internal and external partnering skills.

Responsibilities include:
Manage the general ledger team, accounting operations, payroll, stock admin, international accounting and potentially external reporting.

Manage, develop and mentor a team of high performers (~15); strong leadership skills are a requirement.

Build and develop strong relationships with internal and external business partners.

Continue to maintain a tight month-end close process. Deliver process automation and improvement.

Attention to detail with full understanding of variances to budget and ability to deliver full financial statement review.

Manage international finance operations

Manage annual external audit(s)

Guide the development of infrastructure required to generate financial results.

Skills:
External facing controller. Excels at interacting with business leaders internally and externally. Ability to confidently and effectively communicate to all levels. Gain cooperation through discussion, influence and persuasion.

Strong team leader. Day to day management of operations. Track record of effective coaching and development. Prior team management experience is required.

Strong accounting background with deep knowledge of GAAP. CPA (inactive) is required.

Experience with scaling business processes and operating in environments that have achieved significant scale ($500m+ revenue, 500+ HC). Experience working in a high-growth technology company preferred.

High ceiling; capable of taking on additional responsibilities over time and growing with company and role.

Comfortable operating at both ends of spectrum: “rolling sleeves up” and leading.

Attention to detail with ability to translate financial results to all audiences.

Experience in a multi-country/currency environment preferred.

A Bachelor’s degree is required. Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, of which a minimum of 4 years must be as a Controller, or similar position. Experience with a Big 4 firm preferred.
