The Controller contributes to the fulfillment of the University's mission and vision by coordinating, developing, and implementing all activities related to the financial processes and procedures of the University through continuous process improvement. The Controller responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining the University's financial accounting systems and records to assure financial reporting integrity and regulatory compliance through the proper classification and recording of financial transactions; the production of financial reports that conform with generally accepted accounting principles; managing the operations within General Accounting and Financial Reporting, Grants Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll; resolving complex issues and analysis; customer service in interactions with all employees; and in identifying and implementing continuous process improvements.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related business or technical degree required.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible financial management experience, with at least 5 years of management or supervisory experience in financial reporting or general accounting is required.
Experience must include a demonstrated record of cost effective financial management; a commitment to continuous process improvement, automation, and efficiency; ability to work at all management levels and other individuals in a diverse environment.
Requires excellent leadership skills, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, a "Can Do" attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects and produce high quality work within established time frames.
Requires strong research, communication, and customer service skills.
Proficency with Microsoft Office, accounting applications, system query capabilities, PC based spreadsheet and data base software for analyzing and forecasting required.
Must have valid driver's license.
Masters in Accounting, Finance, or MBA preferred.
CPA, CGFM,CIA, or other advance accounting certifications preferred.
Experience in a large university, hospital and/or governmental/non-profit organization and with Banner preferred.
