The Controls Engineer will be responsible for controls design of Smart Loco energy management products, like Trip Optimizer, Trip Advisor and Smartburn, for an embedded computing platform on a locomotive. In this role, you will focus on system design and risk tradeoffs around new customer requirements and any field reliability issues. In this role, you will:
Develop Matlab based control models, subsystem design specifications, failure modes and effect analysis, DFSS Scorecard and system validation specifications; Six Sigma and Tollgate process execution
Engage with other engineers on team expected
Interact with Marketing, Sales, Quality organization and customers per project need
Develop practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals
Be responsible for work that is less defined in scope and has the understanding and experience to execute business objectives, which can affect short-term and some long-term business goals
Execute the design, analysis or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures and product / program requirements
Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Computer Science

Knowledge and practical experience with Matlab / Simulink / RTW
Minimum of 2 years of experience with Controls and/or Optimization of a dynamic system
Master’s Degree in Engineering
Embedded software design experience
Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
