Shifts: Kitchen is open from 6am - 7:00pm. Cooks must be flexible in hours and days worked. Typical shift is from: 6:00am - 2:30pm w/ 1/2hr. lunch break or 10:30am - 7:00pm w/ 1/2 hr. lunch break or 6:30am- 5:30pm during vacations or emergencies. Cooks work 5 (8 hr.) shifts per week or 4/ 10 hr. shifts per week. Cook is responsible for sanitation of kitchen, labels, dates, rotating grocery and food products, food prep and freezer pulls in advance, production of all patient, cafe, vending food products as well as special functions and catered events as needed. Must be Serve Safe Certified or willing to become certified within 90 days of hire date or next available class. Occasional travel to other facilities to cover emergency needs can be requested and is required. Utilize proper cooking and sanitation techniques to provide first quality entrees, salads, side dishes, starches, desserts, other food items. This is a clean as you go environment and cooks are required to do dish, pot and pan washing, as well as sweep and mop floors and all other duties required by management to keep the kitchen within regulatory standards at all times. Uniforms required.

Utilize proper cooking and sanitation techniques to provide first quality entrees, salads, side dishes, starches, desserts, other food items. This is a clean as you go environment and cooks are required to do dish, pot and pan washing, as well as sweep and mop floors and all other duties required by management to keep the kitchen within regulatory standards at all times. 1. Read menus, recipes, and review all necessary steps in meal preparation with the EVS Services Manager or Dietary Coordinator
2. Prepare all necessary menu items, determine quantity of food needed and follow recipes
3. Serve meals using portions listed on menu; use proper food preparation and handling techniques
4. Prepare substitute items to meet patient's individual needs
5. Cover, date and label all leftovers and store properly
6. Follow established security routine; use proper infection control techniques and protective equipment; use proper safety techniques
7. Receive and check all deliveries against invoices issued by the EVS Manager
8. Supervise dietary personnel in the absence of the EVS Manager
9. Perform other duties as assigned
10. The Cook must be knowledgeable about safe food preparation and handling techniques, nutritional standards/applications and be skilled in bulk food preparation. Should be accurate, concise and detail-oriented and able to work cooperatively as a member of a team. Effective communication with patients, their families and at all levels of the organization is important.
11. High school diploma is preferred with 2 year or more of experience in healthcare food preparation cooking from scratch; experience with therapeutic diet preparation is preferred. Other experience will be considered.
12. Prepares all food items on menu according to pre-determined recipes.
13. Responsible for following all hospice and department policy and procedures.
14. Expected to have excellent verbal and written skills.
15. Expected to have basic mathematical skills.
16. Expected to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
17. Expected to be familiar with standards of food handling, preparation, service, sanitation and safety.
18. Expected to have basic computer skills.
19. Expected to attend and participate in all department staff meetings as well as participate in other meetings, forums and seminars.
20. Expected to check that hot/cold stations are set up properly with the necessary foods and utensils prior to service.
21. Expected to assure that food presentation of patient meal trays is neat and attractive.
22. Expected to complete tray assembly.
23. Expected to follow cleaning guidelines.
24. Expected to recognize the influence of beliefs and cultures on behaviors and accept strengths and limitations in others.
25. Expected to exhibit adaptability, flexibility, self control and maturity in work and behavior.
26. Expected to exhibit calm responsiveness to emergency or stressful situations.
27. Expected to recognize situations which require notification of a supervisor.
28. Expected to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
29. Expected to greet all patients, family members, guests, and employees in a friendly, courteous and hospitable manner.
30. Expected to work well with others.
31. Expected to orient, train, and provide ongoing guidance to staff.

*Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites.

*The person in this position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.
