Description – Overview
The primary purpose of the Coord, CRMH position is to assist in planning, coordinating, designing, implementing and evaluating activities associated with the CAN DO Houston research project and other related projects conducted through the Center for Health Equity and Evaluation Research (DH-CHEER).


The Coordinator will:
  • Meet regularly with the CAN DO Houston project director to plan and coordinate CAN DO Houston activities.
  • Meet regularly with students and volunteers assigned to the project to facilitate communication, schedule and monitor their activities under the supervision of the project director.
  • Be responsible for conducting group or individual interventions with supervision.
  • Perform basic data entry and analysis of project data
  • Assist with preparation of presentations, reports and manuscripts
  • Coordinate project logistics
  • Assist in managing the budget of the CAN DO Houston project
  • Interface with and support community advisory group/s and other collaborators.
  • Assist with engaging community members, including coalition building, facilitating advisory groups, recruiting research participants, and developing partnerships for projects.
  • Establish, cultivate and maintain working relationships and contacts with internal and community constituents, healthcare facilities and other entities to develop and facilitate collaborative partnerships.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Description-Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Psychology or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in health education, health promotion, public health or related field.

Required: None.

Preferred: Certified Health Educator Specialist.

Required: Four years of experience in community relations activities, health education and/or community outreach activities. With preferred degree, two years of experience in community relations, health education and/or community outreach activities.

Preferred: Experience and expertise in health disparities and/or community based participatory research or bench science.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and/or in the field as needed. Will be required to use personal vehicle for local travel. Dependable transportation is required. Mileage reimbursement will apply. Requires the ability to adapt to changing conditions in situations and priorities that may be characterized by high stress levels, such as project deadlines. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, budget and prioritize time and workload, address spontaneous issues and problems, resolve conflicts, and make decisions. The position may also entail physical exertion when necessary in the course of job responsibility including but not limited to: ambulating from place to place on and around the MD Anderson campus, packing and unpacking supplies and other materials as needed which may require stooping and/or lifting of boxes of 25 lbs., or less. The position also requires one to anticipate needs, to recognize situations requiring assistance and have the ability to refer or perform any necessary tasks, and to comprehend the goals of the program and take the initiative in making decisions and taking actions to further these goals.
