The Coordinator, Benefits coordinates and administers the College's benefit programs for all full-time employees and retirees including medical insurance, prescription drug plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, tuition remission, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA, and retiree medical benefits.
Specific Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
- Respond to employee, spouse and retiree requests for information, changes and termination of benefit coverage, new ID cards; resolve benefit issues with carriers and claims processing. * Ensure employees and retirees are given accurate information and appropriate assistance regarding their employee benefit program options. * Coordinate and process leave benefits such as sick, vacation, personal, compensated time, and bereavement. * Coordinate short-term disability, income protection benefits, long-term disability and Family Medical Leave programs. * Review and process submitted medical documentation for STD, LTD and FMLA in a timely manner; contact physicians to obtain updated medical information; set up Independent Medical Evaluations, and discuss employee's capability to return to work based on their job description. Complete paperwork for payroll based on leave status. * Coordinate and administer the College's benefit programs for all full-time employees, part-time classified and confidential employees and retirees including: medical insurance, prescription drug plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, tuition remission, life insurance, and retiree medical benefits. * Participate in annual open enrollment events and monthly new employee orientation sessions; process changes and terminations for benefit coverage. * Oversee Tuition Remission benefits for employees, dependents and retirees. Review tuition remission applications and verify employee and dependent status. * Review and approve employee eligibility for the forgivable loan program. * Conduct interviews with employees to review benefits upon exiting the College. * Administer retiree medical and life insurance benefits. Conduct initial exit interview with retiree, review and discuss Medicare, College retiree medical benefits, spousal benefits, payment plan, and paperwork needed for benefit changes. * Prepare various reports including imputed tax for retiree life insurance, retiree medical benefits, and city wage tax. * Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner. * Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Three (3) years of experience in benefits administration required. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment required. Excellent organizational skills required. Ability to demonstrate initiative, responsibility and flexibility required. Ability to use working knowledge of work environment to meet established goals and objectives required. Ability to demonstrate thorough understanding of benefits administration for active employees and retirees, short-term disability, FMLA and pertinent federal, state, and local laws required. Detail-orientation and customer-service orientation required. Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.
Experience in benefits administration in a higher education, unionized environment preferred.
