The Research Coordinator will communicate with researchers regarding incoming proposals, including identifying project activities, draft potential/proposed budget and study objectives for AltaMed. Responsible for compiling and preparing program data for reports and annual cost reporting for all research grant programs, which include multiple research projects. Will take the lead in the preparation of budgets for all research projects including budget amendments. Coordinates, and prepares documentation for research grant program assessments and financial audits. Compiles and maintains data for analysis of program requirements, and budget projections.


  • Prepares detail listing of all research projects to include staffing, research compliance requirements, term of research, amount of research grant, contact people, re-application schedule, and the schedule of all required reports including budget amendments to adequately monitor reporting compliance.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate database of proposal and reporting due dates, keeping relevant staff informed of upcoming deadlines and ensuring on-time and complete follow through on all research reports on awarded research projects.
  • Participates in program planning and evaluation, helps to provide fiscal year operating budgets for research projects.
  • Acts as representative of the project lead in dealings with research agencies, academic faculty, staff, and community groups.
  • Looks for opportunities for AltaMed to participate as a Principal Investigator or in the dissemination of research activities, which includes identifying a proposal and setting timelines, etc.
  • Coordinates the preparation of all necessary reports to various outside regulatory and supporting agencies.
  • Apprises investigators and program leads on the status of proposed and on-going research programs.
  • Provide monthly reports regarding program and budget compliance status and follows up on any issues through to resolution.
  • Fosters good working relationships with managers, peers and academic institute personnel.
  • Reviews and analyzes individual funded research projects and resolves administrative and fiscal discrepancies.
  • Possesses authority to intervene in areas where administrative issues impact grant-funded research projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of research design and experience with research projects.
  • Excellent computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Accurate with numbers and detail oriented.
  • Superior knowledge of budgets and spreadsheets, with good data entry abilities (fast and accurate).
  • Highly organized with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow and communicate complex instructions and directions.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and schedule multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to follow-up and resolve problems arising from routine situations.
  • Good public relations -- good interpersonal skills with managers and administrative staff.
  • Highly professional demeanor, ability to provide good representation of AltaMed to outside sources and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Arts Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • A minimum of one year experience required working in research-related projects; healthcare exposure strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish, and/or Chinese strongly preferred.
