Coordinator of Advising and Retention
This position is responsible for coordinating academic advising and retention efforts to help students maximize potential while at Bay Path College. An appreciation for an integrated, holistic approach to learning and student development is especially desired, as is the ability to lead and manage implementation of a comprehensive retention system. To ensure connection with students, position is required to teach one course per year in the traditional or One Day programs.
Design and communicate an overall developmental advising model/plan that is suitable yet flexible for traditional and One Day students and that reflects the College’s mission and vision plan. Lead and support a team of academic advisors, which will include staff and faculty. Coordinate and communicate assignation of students to the most appropriate and effective advisor. Evaluate and track the effectiveness of advising and retention services, utilizing student feedback to assure advising and retention programs are meeting the needs of students. Lead the implementation of a comprehensive retention management system, including optimal utilization of the Jenzabar student data tracking system, collection, analysis and reporting of relevant retention data. Oversee use of a retention early alert system and process, including development and implementation of academic recovery plans for high-risk students. Conduct ongoing analysis of student retention and attrition activity; prepare and disseminate regular retention reports. Design and create a virtual advising center to ensure that students can access helpful resources at their convenience. Coordinate the selection, implementation, and analysis of data from student assessments such as placement tests, learning inventories, the CSI and NSSE, and so on. Analyze placement/assessment results and develop appropriate actions in response to data. Oversee the advising and scheduling of newly-admitted traditional undergraduates. Contribute to the design and refinement of the orientation process and activities for new, transfer, exploratory major students, and One Day students. Develop training materials and conduct professional development opportunities. Collaborate with faculty and staff to contribute to students’ smooth integration and transition to college study. Contribute to the design and implementation of support programs to prepare students for academic activities at the college level. Coordinate activities and personnel for College activities such as Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, etc. Advise students directly, including connecting students with College resources such as counseling services and student support services. Lead the Retention Committee.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have master’s degree in higher education, student services administration, instructional administration, education, planning, or counseling. Experience with developmental advising is preferred and candidates must be capable of teaching introductory courses at the college level, such as a first-year student seminar. Additional requirements include knowledge of student development theory and the college experience. The preferred candidate will also be familiar with first generation college student retention strategies, best practices in academic advising, research techniques and data analysis in higher education. Qualified candidates must be able to work with confidential material with integrity and discretion and effectively prioritize responsibilities and adhere to deadlines. Applicants must have excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills, and be extremely detail oriented. Candidates must have strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database experience. Applicants must be able to work flexible and extended schedule including weekends and evenings when necessary.
