You are a strategic thinker who has excelled in your education and career and are looking for an opportunity to do cutting-edge legal work in a pre-IPO company with a great team and top-tier investors. You like to be involved in everything from customer and business development deals to product development to regulatory compliance, employment, customer support, IP, and corporate and stockholder matters. You are a “jack of all trades” with demonstrated expertise in Internet services, technology and business law. You will report to the Vice President & General Counsel, and work closely with multiple business units and the management team, to play a vital role in creating the legal and policy framework that enables Elance to grow and thrive. Here’s what you need to know:
In this role, you will:
Work with the enterprise sales and business development teams to negotiate and document deals of all sizes
Work with the product, engineering and global payments business units to develop agreements for new services
Support customer service to advise on customer issues
Keep current on compliance and regulatory issues
Help manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio and strategy
Assist in corporate and stockholder matters
Advise senior management on legal issues affecting the company
Consult and manage outside counsel as appropriate to achieve company objectives on time and on budget
Collaborate with the entire Elance team to contribute to the continuous refinement of product strategy, business opportunities and anything else that helps Elance expand our market leading position
Lead by example. This is a very hands-on role for a great in-house lawyer who likes to be in the trenches
To win in this role, you need:
JD from a top-tier law school and license to practice in California
Top law firm experience required
Four to six years of experience in a combination of commercial transactions and Internet services a must
Expertise drafting and negotiating sales and services agreements and IP licensing is required
Some in-house experience preferred, in-house experience supporting contracts or business development a plus
Working knowledge of IP law and IP portfolio management a plus
Working knowledge of electronic payments systems and regulation a plus
International experience a plus
Strong organizational and communication skills
Sound and practical business judgment
Flexibility and passion to thrive in a fast-paced informal startup environment
