Job Description:

Hours - 40 hrs. estimated for most weeks, with 10-15 hrs. OT for two weeks on the quarters.

Although it is not a guarantee, the assignments have the potential to convert. Candidates should be interested in right to hire and authorized to permanently work in the United States. However, manager will also consider candidates who are only available for temporary consulting work, as well. If available for temporary consulting work only, please include in notes when submitting candidate.

This position is in the Federal Tax Compliance and Reporting area within the Finance Department. The responsibilities of this area include federal tax returns, GAAP and state insurance department regulatory (statutory) financial reporting and audits by financial examiners. The position reports to the

Director of Federal Reporting and Compliance.

Principal Accountabilities

Financial reporting

The incumbent is responsible for the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting. This includes the computation of federal taxes reported in the quarterly and annual statements filed with the

Securities and Exchange Commission and state insurance departments. Tax provisions computations and current and deferred tax balances are computed and tracked on both a legal entity and line of business level. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing responses to inquiries from The Company’s auditing firm and state insurance departments.

Tax Compliance

The incumbent is responsible for preparing income tax returns for insurance, noninsurance and limited liability companies. The Corptax system is used for income tax returns.


The incumbent is responsible for identifying, researching and recommending solutions to tax issues and tax-related financial reporting issues as they arise.

The incumbent is responsible on an ongoing basis for identifying and recommending opportunities to Improve tax processes.


The incumbent must develop and maintain excellent working relationships within the financial and business units throughout the company. The incumbent must function effectively as part of a team or on his own, as a given situation warrants.

Additional Position Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting

• 2-6 years of experience in corporate taxation (preferably in an insurance environment)

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Ability to recognize and research tax issues and recommend solutions

• Experience with CorpTax or other tax return software is desirable

• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

• Continuous improvement mindset
