Mortgage Operations Trainer

Salary: $35k-40k (1-3 years’ experience)
$45-55k (5 years’ experience)

The Trainer will have the opportunity to design and develop a variety of training materials for computer-based, web-based, instructor-led, and virtual training situations. This role will be responsible for analyzing current training, designing and developing new curriculum, delivering training programs and tracking results. This position will work with members of management to modify existing methods and procedures or plan and establish new methods and procedures to best meet business needs. The ideal candidate should have previous experience working in at least one key process area within the mortgage industry – Lien Release, Mortgage Recording, Final Document or general mortgage operations. Comparable work experience in the retail banking sector will also be considered. Quality Assurance Experience will be a plus.


Defines learning strategies including conceptual design, material development and implementation planning for all phases of projects including supporting project execution plans, pilots, train-the-trainer events, resource management and post-deployment support.

Develops creative solutions to meet day-to-day operational training needs, and integrates them into existing training programs.

Ensure learning and development strategies are linked to improved job performance.

Drive efforts to create a learning organization which optimizes teammate performance and fulfill business objectives.

Actively maintain working knowledge of production systems and procedures.

Assist and support management to develop training skills and ensure employee engagement/ownership of learning initiatives.

Identify new training opportunities and work directly with management to propose and implement training solutions.

Monitor and report on training effectiveness - Administer assessments, provide feedback to trainees and report performance results to management.

Maintain a system for updating training materials, monitoring training progress and documenting completed training. Track training effectiveness against established performance metrics and goals, and make recommendations for process and performance improvements.

Use project management experience to prioritize tasks, plan projects and accomplish goals, while ensuring high quality execution.

Develop and update course materials (i.e. instructor guides, participant guides, train-the-trainer materials, job aids, evaluations and assessments, etc.) provided by various resources and offer feedback and recommendations to improve the quality of training materials including the standardization of all training materials according to company format.

Conducts root cause analysis based on available reports to identify training needs analysis, with the ability to analyze content, position, job tasks and target audience. Documents process flows and generates illustrations to clarify detailed processes/concepts.


Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Previous instructional design experience - 2-5 years of work experience in training, program development, education or consulting.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles and blended delivery methods required. Expertise in a variety of training concepts, practices, and procedures, including experience incorporating hands-on learning. Experience designing and developing instructor-led training and eLearning modules.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.

Experience interviewing and communicating effectively with subject matter experts (SMEs).

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - ability to provide sample storyboards or course-content outlines.

Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced high energy environment.

Ability to identify and apply appropriate instructional design principles based on subject matter.

Ability to tailor presentations to influence various audiences.

Ability to balance the strategic needs of the business with the day-to-day practical side of training and development initiatives within the organization.

Ability to work in a constantly changing and flexible environment with strong connection to team success and strong relationship with teammates.
