This position is located at Orange Correctional Center. Work varied schedule. Return to work during emergencies. Continuously observe and patrol work area; perform crisis intervention; compose and write comprehensive reports. Operate locking devices and maintain keys; observe sanitary food handling practices; secure and maintain equipment. read comprehend and calculate menus.Instruct and supervise inmates, understand food nutritional values. inventory and rotate stock conduct inmate counts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

Knowledge of custody and inmate behavior. Some knowledge of food preparations. Some knowledge of the general measures to be used to maintain sanitary conditions in food service. Ability to supervise inmates in handling work assignments. Ability to establish good working relationship with inmates.

Management Preference: High School graduate with one year as a correctional officer; or one year of experience in institutional food preparation; management of a commercial food service operation. Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services; in management of a commercial food service operation; as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements for Correctional Food Service Officer Trainee Appointment - High school or General Educational Development diploma. Necessary Special Qualification - Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council.
