This position located at Fountain Correctional Center for Women, located in Edgecombe County.
Position performs first-line supervisory work in a minimum custody facility and provides supervision and custody of inmates in their assigned food preparation and food service work area. Oversee inmate workers engaged in a variety of activities in food production including cooking, baking and serving food to the inmate population. Work includes, but is not limited to, communicating verbally and in writing; comprehend and abide by verbal and written instructions; input and comprehend computer data; secure and maintain equipment; read and comprehend and calculate menus; observe sanitary food handling practices; understand food nutritional values; inventory and rotate stock. Perform rescue functions such as CPR, first aid, fire fighting, engage in physical activities necessary to control or apprehend inmates, defend against physical attacks. Distinguish color codes used for emergencies and security purposes; operate locking devices and maintain keys. Complete CPR, firearms and unarmed self-defense training; and work a varied schedule.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Some knowledge of custody and inmate behavior. Some knowledge of food preparations. Some knowledge of the general measures to be used to maintain sanitrary conditions in food service. Ability to supervise inmates in handling work assignments. Ability to establish good working relationship with inmates.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services; in management of a commercial food service operation; as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements for Correctional Food Service Officer Trainee Appointment - High school or General Educational Development diploma. Necessary Special Qualification - Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council.
