Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Cost Accountant for our Cleveland, TN manufacturing facility. The Cleveland plant manufactures a wide variety of kitchen cooking appliances.
Day to Day (what a typical day or week looks like in this role):
The Cost Accountant provides and maintains accurate and timely finished appliance and component costing to meet the needs of internal and external process partners. This position is responsible for planning, forecasting, and analyzing product and component cost changes and for reporting those changes to our platform design & engineering teams. The Cost Accountant has the lead in developing product standard costs, for analyzing variances to those standards, and for providing key decision-making information vital to the profitability and growth of the company.
In addition, the Cost Accountant ensures the accuracy and reliability of division raw material, work-in-progress and finished goods inventory transactions through various periodic reporting, audit and reconciling activities. The Cost Accountant directly participates in the plant's annual profit planning, monthly forecasting, and month-end closing activities. The Cost Accountant provides operational productivity and variance analysis used to drive improvements in the plant's overall cost structure. The Cost Accountant ensures GAAP and SOX compliance, maintaining and improving internal controls over company assets & resources.
Whirlpool Corporation is presently investing $200M in a new manufacturing plant in Cleveland TN. A part of this new facility is the introduction and use of Continuously Improving Organization (CIO) principles designed to develop and fully engage each associate working at the plant.
What You Will Do
Represent finance department on strategic cross-functional support teams as requested or required.
Support production operations objectives through active participation in various projects & assignments, including work team coaching & cooking appliance manufacturing activities.
Subject-matter expert for current and new model costing, monthly cost roll-ups, and model by model cost tracking, analysis and reporting.
Plan, forecast, track and analyze cost variances v. standards.
Lead and direct the annual standard cost setting process.
Oversee monthly reconciliation of costing sub-ledgers to SAP.
Provide miscellaneous cost analyses as needed.
Work directly with plant manufacturing operations to plan, organize and implement the necessary accounting, manufacturing systems, and process improvements required to deliver proper internal controls.
Provide cost expertise to the new product development teams.
Develop control systems and processes for cost accounting within a Lean manufacturing environment.
Rigorously drive delivery of on-going product cost savings objectives.
Demonstrated skill and abilities include:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with 1-5 years experience in a manufacturing cost position
Outstanding logical and critical thinking skills
Proven ability to analyze problems and provide effective solutions
Product costing responsibility, forecasting and plan development, month-end closing, cost analysis and reporting
Plan, forecast, track and analyze standard cost variances
Personal computer efficiency in Windows and MS Office, especially MS Excel and preferably MS Access. Knowledge of Visual Basic is highly desirable.
Strong motivational, listening and communication skills
Ability to develop personal relationships and manage conflict toward the prevention of problems
