Daily responsibility includes managing project time tables, product process costs, identifying appropriate methods of manufacturing, etc. all of which usually require communication with other supporting departments.
Cost Estimator must continually increase their familiarity with all aspects of production operations.
May necessitate overtime and business travel.
EDUCATION/PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Manufacturing Engineering and/or BS Industrial Engineering preferred
Additional technical training certificates a plus
Minimum of three to five years of experience in product cost estimating
Must be able to interpret engineering drawings/geometric tolerance and specifications
Knowledge of Bills of Material (BOM), routings, lean manufacturing procedures, tooling/fixture, test equipment, etc.
Working knowledge of shop floor machining, welding, sheet metal operations, assembly and testing
Cost estimator must possess excellent communication and negotiation skills
Must be PC literate and proficient with the use of Microsoft Excel
Responsible for product cost estimating, both existing and new products
Identify manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and test equipment as required to enable us of building specific product
Will analyze and interpret engineering drawings and specification requirement to evaluate and determine labor hours and material cost
Must possess good knowledge of our products and manufacturing capabilities
Determine products to be manufactured in house or subcontracted through manufacturing capabilities a make/buy analysis
Conduct status meetings periodically for all Requests for Quote (RFQ) and/or Requests for Proposal (RFP)
Participate in the pricing process and be able to justify labor hours and material cost assessed
Performs daily transfer pricing
Reviewing and updating standards as needed
Cost estimators must be flexible, well organized and able to prioritize work as directed given multiple task requirements
Job history and information must be well organized and retained for future reference
Create detailed estimate utilizing information from past history, similarities or collective information from various departments in the organization
Required Lifting Weight: 30 lbs. Lifting Frequency: Seldom
Cost estimator must be able freely visit production areas.
