The Denver City Council District 11 office is seeking a Council Aide II .

We are looking for someone with exceptional communication, organizational, b udget management, and office administrative skills who demonstrates a history of customer service and successful problem resolution in a confidentiality-sensitive environment. Additionally, we’re looking for someone who thrives on understanding and supporting the political legislative environment by contributing to the Councilmember’s office operations.
This position provides visible and critical administrative/clerical support and/or office management for the City Councilmember. The selected individual will have the opportunity to be an integral member of the Councilmember’s team, helping to deliver successful legislative operations as we strengthen and improve the community and city around us.

Job Responsibilities:

Information Management – Prepares, monitors, tracks, updates, reviews, maintains, and edits internal and/or external documents; keeps advised of the current status of the work of the city councilmember and anticipates the city councilmember’s needs by gathering records, reports, correspondence, statistics, or other information; maintains the city councilmember’s appointment calendar, arranges/coordinates appointments, meetings, and conferences, and contacts the appropriate individuals to attend; and updates and manages constituent database.
Communications – Communicates general information with internal staff and external entities; briefs city councilmember on subject matter for upcoming meetings/events; answers telephones, screens calls and visitors, and directs individuals to the proper contact; prioritizes communication efforts of the city councilmember; attends meetings and takes notes for the city councilmember; prepares presentations for the city councilmember; and acts as communications assistant to city councilmember which can include the following: updating social media outlets weekly, design and preparation of monthly e-newsletter through office software, and updating the city councilmember’s website on a weekly basis.
Policies and Procedures – Maintains, edits, and reviews policies and procedures for grammatical structure and consistency; updates manuals; types and edits documents, and distributes updates; prepares databases that assist with documentation; revises and recommends procedures or methods to comply with new or revised requirements; and explains, interprets, and implements office policies and procedures to internal and external contacts.
Expenditure Controls – Monitors, verifies, tracks, and documents expenditures; prepares budget documents; determines office needs and makes recommendations for supplies and equipment; monitors and tracks resources for operation; maintains the office’s procurement credit cards, and creates and prepares forms and/or other documents to support the councilmember’s budgetary responsibility.


Skills –
Problem resolution; attention to details; proficiency at using a variety of computer software; high level of confidentiality; multi-tasking with regard to work activities and projects; operating telephone system; principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication; knowledge of budget documents sufficient to monitor expenditures; standard office practices and procedures; and knowledge of City Council’s policies, procedures, rules, and laws.
Education –
Associate’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, Communications, or related field.
Experience –
Experience performing specialized and/or technical office support with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Publisher. Experience managing a budget is preferred. The ideal candidate has a customer service background.
Education/Experience Equivalency –
A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

Compensation range: $40,604 - $55,000
