The Counselor is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere through an online environment where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. The Counselor directly counsels students and their parents regarding Advanced Academics courses and procedures and assists in monitoring student progress. This person assists school counselors throughout the states serviced by Advanced Academics with information on course availability, enrollment requirements, and graduation requirements for each state.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews transcripts to ensure that online students meet graduation or college requirements and makes recommendations based on these requirements.
Maintains accurate and efficient record keeping procedures through Advanced Academics’ ROADS system.
Stays informed and manages assigned individual district requirements (i.e. deadlines, expectations, etc.).
Initiates and maintains regular contact with assigned students, parents, AAI teachers and school administrators.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents/guardians, school administrators, co-workers, and other professionals.
Provides a positive online environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
Answers student inquiries in an accurate and timely manner using media appropriate to the question(s) asked.
Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university required, a current state approved counseling certification, and a minimum of 3 years of successful traditional/post-secondary experience.
Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Highly motivated toward self-discipline and quality work.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
Ability to work as part of a team
Effective multi-tasking and time management skills
Ability to motivate students in a distance-learning environment
Ability to make school site visitations and participate in presentations about online teaching and learning
