The purpose of this position is to memorialize court proceedings and events for the Court and other interested parties to produce an objective record of those events in order to facilitate the judicial process and expedite resolution pursuant to ARS 12-283.
Minimum education and/or experience:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate and three (3) years of clerical, legal office, or court related experience. An equivalent combination of education (above the high school level) and job-related experience may substitute for up to two (2) years of the experience requirement. The ability to successfully pass both a written and typing exam (at 40 wpm) is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions. Must be able to train coworkers, follow workflow and communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Must be able to establish and maintain working rapport with coworkers, prioritize workload and perform accurate and concise clerical work. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of computer skills and business English (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and to transcribe oral or written dictation, as well as speak clearly and concisely in a courtroom. Must be able to make sound decisions of some difficulty in accordance with established procedures and rules and provide professional and courteous customer service. Must have basic Microsoft Word and Outlook skills. Must be able to conform to performance standards.
Essential Job Tasks:
Attend all sessions of court. Record court proceedings in a note-taking manner. Transcribe notes into standard minute entry format within established timeframes. Determine correct parties/agencies entitled to receive copies of minute entries. Record and secure exhibits presented for court proceedings. Communicate oaths, affirmations and contents of court documents to court participants. Receive, process, and/or issue court documents including jail releases, warrants and confidential orders. Proofread and edit work for accuracy and detail. Maintain list of cases under advisement for quarterly submission to the Supreme Court. Provide training to coworkers.
