The Crane operator will report to the Barge Foreman he
has been assigned to work with. He is responsible for
the safe operation of various types and capacities of
cranes. Responsible to operate electric or diesel
powered crane mounted on crawler threads to lift and
move material and objects.
¨ Starts engine and drives crane to worksite steering
crane by pushing or pulling on levers and pressing
pedals that control motion of crawler crane
¨ Pushes and pulls levers and presses pedals in response
to hand signals or radio commands to rotate crane or
chassis and raise and lower crane boom and loadline
¨ Observes load hook up and safety of load, movers
material to maintain production flow or subsidiary
operations, and observes indicator to insure that lift
is within the lifting capacity of the crane
¨ Operates crane on barge subject to sea conditions.
¨ Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies
supervisor of mechanical or electrical malfunction
¨ Directs helpers engaged in blocking and rigging under
crane when lifting load and inspects cable and grappling
devices for wear
¨ Complete pre-start checklist and report any
discrepancy’s found while performing inspections to
ensure that the crane is in a safe operating manner.
¨ Assist riggers in making sure that the load is rigged
properly and within the riggings rated capacity and is
ready to be moved
¨ Make sure that the load to be lifted is within the
capacity of the crane.
¨ Must be briefed during JSA/TRA and prior to a heavy or
if an unusual lift is planned
¨ Has authority to stop and refuse to handle the load or
continue operations as safety dictates.
¨ Perform or assist with wire and rigging inspections
¨ High School Diploma or Equivalent.
¨ Rigging Training
¨ JRM Crane Operator Course/On the job training under
¨ Annual Crane Operators physical exam
¨ Wire Inspector Training Level 1 or 2 preferred
