Credit Analysts serve the Association's internal and external customers by processing and underwriting loan and lease requests and servicing requests. Credit analysts provide timely loan processing and underwriting, incorporating sound decisions on structure, terms and conditions, and documentation to design innovative credit packages to meet customer needs while maintaining high quality credit standards. They work in a team environment to accomplish goals.
Credit Analyst incumbents on the Retail Credit Underwriting Team provide support for Ag Direct, Country Home Loan, Farmer, Rancher and Investor customer segments for loans originated in the company’s retail offices. These analysts are primarily responsible for transactions with an operating aggregate less than $1.25 million or aggregate less than $5.0 million:
• Grade 20-21: Responsible for analyzing, servicing and monitoring medium to high risk and investor loans that are less complex in nature, ranging from scorecard lending to credit analysis of traditional farming and ranching operations. Delegated authority typically ranges from $250,000 to $2.0 million.
• Grade 22: Responsible for analyzing, servicing and monitoring medium to high risk and investor loans that are more complex in nature and typically greater than $500,000 GFI. Incumbents provide informal leadership within the credit underwriting team and may provide formal leadership of special projects for the team or the organization. Delegated authority typically ranges from $1.5 million to $3.0 million.
• Grade 23: Responsible for complex investor loans and/or non-investor loans that are high risk and typically exceed $500,000 GFI. Incumbents will provide leadership to less experienced analysts, provide a leadership role in special projects, and effectively and consistently collaborate with Farm Credit Services of America team members. Grade level 23 analysts are expected to play an active role in helping to define and bring consistency to Association credit philosophy. Delegated authority typically ranges from $2.0 million to $4.0 million.
All specialties may provide work direction and counsel to Credit Specialists. Provide credit analysis and underwriting support and counsel to retail employees, external originators and the Association’s customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
1. Provide analysis and underwriting of loan and lease applications for new, renewal and servicing actions. Analyze customer financial statements, which may include balance sheets, trend analysis, income statements, cash flows, collateral analysis, performance reconciliations, and credit bureau reports.
2. Partner with Financial Officers to design and underwrite innovative credit packages to meet customer needs. This includes establishing and maintaining sound credit administration, analysis, compliance, establishing appropriate terms and conditions to manage risks, and pricing guidelines for each transaction.
3. Partner with Country Home Loan Officers, AgDirect team members and dealers, and Retail team members to negotiate terms and credit enhancements to, or denials of, loan applications that require a manual underwriting process.
4. Determining and collecting appropriate financial information to establish and maintain sound credit and loan administration, completion of loan narratives, and establishing appropriate loan terms and conditions for the purpose of managing the loan risks.
5. Provide analysis for portfolio monitoring and credit classification changes. Analysts may be assigned to a specific product type for analysis and decision making.
6. Use consensus decision-making authority with retail employees/Financial Officers to approve or deny loans within delegated authority. Make recommendations for loans exceeding authority.
7. Achieve satisfactory credit administration and credit quality goals.
8. Levels 21, 22, 23 may serve as a mentor to less experienced Credit Analysts and to other members of the Credit Underwriting Team.
9. Provide feedback and support of various related IT projects through participation in or temporary leadership of workgroups or other special projects.
Additional functions of the position may include:
1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in business, finance and/or economics.
Level 20: A minimum of one to two years of lending/credit analysis experience with Farm Credit Services or a related agricultural credit organization.
Level 21: A minimum of three to five years of lending/credit analysis experience with Farm Credit Services or a related agricultural credit organization.
Level 22: A minimum of five to seven years of lending/credit analysis experience with Farm Credit Services or a related agricultural credit organization.
Level 23: A minimum of seven to 9 years lending/credit analysis experience with Farm Credit Services or a related agricultural credit organization.
Duties for all levels require:
• A general working knowledge of Farm Credit Services of America processes.
• Good to exceptional understanding of credit extension, loan administration, industry experience and portfolio management.
• Basic understanding of consumer and transactional credit scoring.
• Basic analytical and general credit skills.
• Credit analysis focused on managing and documenting exceptions to credit standards and AgriLytic workflows.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Farm Credit Services of America's products and services.
• In-depth understanding of finance and farm production methods, products, and profitability.
• Knowledge of FCA regulations, Association policies, and lending expectations.
• Good to superior skills in: judgment, decisiveness, analysis, communications (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills. Excellent negotiating and influencing skills.
• Maintain current awareness of social, economic, governmental, and environmental forces impacting agriculture.
• Knowledge of AgriLytic, Agrinomics, Relationship and a proficiency and ability to use computer systems and databases to include Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
• Provide sound technical advice to leadership and other staff related to this position.
• Demonstrated team building attitude and skills.
• Ability to interpret policy, programs, and regulations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills, and the ability and willingness to represent the Association.
• Demonstrated abilities in helping to develop new business.
• High level portfolio risk comprehension, and how it relates to credit philosophy development.
• In-depth understanding of risk management practices and strategies such as commodity marketing tools and crop insurance.
• In-depth understanding of both the financial aspects and the production side of the business. Ability to understand and discuss the production/industry challenges facing the operation as well as financial challenges.
• Demonstrated leadership within and outside the immediate team, bringing value to the organization through participation in activities beyond the scope of the underwriting team.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute value to discussions that shape Association credit philosophy and help provide consistency to its application in credit decisions by the entire team.
Extensive internal contact with retail staff. Limited external contact with customers, prospects, AgDirect dealers, and Farm Credit Leasing.
