ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: The Crisis Intervention Specialist is primarily responsible for ongoing communication with the Behavior Analyst regarding student behavior. This position will lead the crisis team and provide assistance regarding crisis situations to all students. The Crisis Intervention Specialist will provide training to all with teachers, clinicians and paraprofessionals using Professional Crisis Management (PCM).
- Train school staff on Professional Crisis Management (PCM) and provide quarterly refresher courses for all staff members
- Provide direct behavioral support and intervention to students with disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis and PCM
- Provide direct service to all high school students with mentoring and social skills groups
- Provide assistance in classrooms as requested
- Provide supervision of students in the in-school suspension room
- Work with Behavior Therapists on behavior plans and help ensure those plans are being carried out throughout the school
- Intervene directly in the classrooms and other school areas when needed to assist students in achieving their behavioral goals
- Collaboration and consulting with the school staff and administration in the ongoing
development and implementation of school-wide behavior policies and procedures, including Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
- Collaboration and consulting with school staff and administration in the ongoing development and implementation of classroom behavior strategies and management that incorporate methods supported by best practices research
- Attendance at IEP meetings as requested
- Oversight of and training on the incident reporting process, insuring the timely submission of accurate incident reports
- Coordination and implementation of crisis procedures and policies
- Document all interactions with students involved in behavioral incidents and maintain accurate and timely records, as required.
- Phone consultation with parents regarding behavior support in the home
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Special Education; Social Work; Psychology or related field; two years of experience working with special needs individuals or groups.
Minimum: Associate’s Degree or two years of study at accredited college, training in behavior management and crisis prevention techniques. High school diploma accepted, based on experience.
- Duties require the employee to stand and walk for prolonged periods and to have the ability to physically restrain students using approved restraint techniques
- Employee must be able to lift 50 pounds
