DC Central Kitchen seeks a Culinary Arts Instructor to join our dynamic team and support our mission of " Combating hunger and Creating opportunity." Coordinate enrollment, selection and facilitation of culinary arts training program. Think creatively,develop, design, or create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions. Monitor and communicate student progress with Culinary Training program team.

Responsible for teaching students food preparation, food production, and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen. Ensuring students are aware of supplies and equipment used in the culinary arts field, which includes quality and cost containment standards. Equip participants with the knowledge and problem solving skills related to inventory, supplies, pricing, menu planning, safety, and sanitation issues that arise in the food service industry. Responsible for the instruction of ServSafe, sanitation, nutrition and culinary skills. Develop career opportunities for student wishing to pursue a career as a culinary professional. Student are taught nutrition, food prservation and food technology, to cook, bake, decorate, utiltize a varirty of cooking tools, clean and imporve food safety.


Develop objectives and strategies, establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them.

Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards, using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

Prepare outlines of instructional programs and training schedules and establish course goals. Select and assemble books, materials, supplies, and equipment for training, courses, or projects.

Develop curricula and plan course content and methods of instruction. Arrange for lectures by experts in designated fields.

Integrate academic and vocational curricula so that students can obtain a variety of skills.

Develop teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials.

Supervise independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work, or other training.

Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field, and integrate relevant information into training programs.

Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness. Provide individualized instruction and tutorial or remedial instruction.

Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rolls, and training activity detail

The Culinary Arts Instructor will be tasked with responsibilitis which requires the incumbent to be organized, follow systematic methods of performing tasks and demonstrated excellent time mnagement skills.

Self-starter comfortable working independently and collaboratively with a team; ability to make critical decisions at times while adhering to company goals.

Able to make industry connections promoting service learning, cooperative education, and work base learning opportunities for the students.

Additional work hours outside the normal work day required periodically for purposes of providing additional learning experiences for the students in catering and hosting events.

Perform day to day administrative tasks and activities such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.

Knowledge of food preparation and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen, culinary facility and safety guidelines.

Knowledge of supplies and equipment.

Ability to follow curriculum guidelines.

Ability to lead and train others.

Qualifications/Education Requirements:
Computer proficiency which includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access.

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Bachelor's degree is preferred. Associate's degree required.

Three (3) years of teaching experience, in the field of culinary arts.

Relevant work experience in the culinary arts as a Chef, Catering Manager, Sous Chef or Culinary Director is required.

Vocational Career Technical certificate authorizing service as a Culinary Arts Teacher desired.

Ability to stay flexible and keep a sense of humor while working well in a fast-paced environment.

Current driver’s license and excellent driving record desired.
