The incumbent performs routine manual work in the custodial care of the campus buildings and furnishings, including cleaning and clearing of building entrance walkways. This position is considered an essential personnel position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean, wax, and polish floors, lavatories, commodes and showers.
Dust and polish furniture, woodwork and metal fixtures.
Replace light bulbs and make simple repairs to equipment and furnishings.
Move furniture and supplies.
Lock and unlock rooms and buildings.
Shovel snow and sweep sidewalks.
Collect trash, separate materials for recycling and remove trash from building.
Complete Custodial Work Order forms.
Reports on items in buildings, equipment, and furnishings needing repairs and/or maintenance.
Applicant must possess these skills, knowledge, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and stairs, walk, stand, bend, stoop and kneel.
Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines and other custodial equipment.
Ability to learn the materials, methods and practices used in custodial work.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials for different types of building surfaces.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Sufficient physical strength and manual dexterity to perform custodial tasks.
License Required: A current valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required.
Minimum Experience and Training: No previous experience and training required.
Applicants will be rated on the following criteria:
1) Cleaning experience in an educational, commercial, institutional or industrial environment or other professional cleaning services.
2) Experience with using cleaning equipment (scrubbers, shampooers, power washers, vacuums, etc.), materials, methods, and procedures in cleaning operations.
3) Demonstrated customer service skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
Finalist must communicate well and successfully complete an interview.
