High school diploma or GED; one year of experience in direct customer service contact; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of standard office procedures. Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard office equipment. Ability to file alphabetically and numerically. Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy required. Must have the ability to adapt to change and be able to handle multiple concurrent assignments. Prior experience in a construction or building inspection environment helpful. Pre-employment drug testing and FBI criminal background check required.

Duties:
Greets and interviews customers at the receptionist desk of Community Development to determine where they need to go for service. Processes building permit applications; answers phones; calculates permit fees; operates a cash register; maintains the department's filing system for construction plans and prepares files for off-site storage according to the Library of Virginia Record Retention Schedule. Provides backup to the Automation Team by logging help desk calls and offering assistance to the team as needed. Performs other work as required.

Shift:
Monday - Friday; 25 hours/week
