This position is responsible for disseminating information to the public and law enforcement officers, and for performing various clerical duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Answers the department telephones and directs calls; greets the public.

Monitors two-way radio communications.

Responds to requests for information from officers in the field; retrieves data from state and national crime information computer networks.

Maintains log of active warrants, trespass warnings, and noise permits.

Maintains log of on-duty officers, patrol zones, and vehicle assignments; maintains log of work locations for off-duty officers.

Monitors security and surveillance cameras.

Maintains records of impounded vehicles; dispatches wreckers; collects towing fees.

Enters traffic citations to computer.

Write incident reports received from citizens by phone or reported at the police
department.
Enters data from incident and accident reports to the records management computer system; updates files as supplementary information becomes available. Checks reports entered into the departmental computer system by officers for accuracy, making the necessary corrections
Stores and returns recovered property.

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF

Relevant federal and state laws, criminal and traffic codes, and town ordinances.

Department policies and procedures.

Regulations and procedures of state and national crime information centers.

The geography and road system of the town and surrounding area.

ABILITY TO:
Maintain records.

Manage files.

Ability to operate various office equipment, including a typewriter, calculator, copier, and computer.

Ability to operate audiovisual equipment.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to communicate and work with the public.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one year.
