Under the direction of the Program Director, the Recreational Gymnastics Coach will provide instruction and leadership for gymnastics team members. This position must perform program responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA.


Current state approved first aid certification within the first three months of employment. Certification must be renewed every year.

Current state approved CPR/AED certification within the first three months of employment. Certification must be renewed every year.

YMCA certification as offered and required for program area.

Current USA Gymnastics Safety Certification.

Current AAU and/or USA Gymnastics membership.

Knowledge in teaching the basic progressions of gymnastics and movement education a plus but not required.

Two or more years of experience coaching a competitive girl’s team or as a competitive gymnast.

Ability to motivate, coach and lead participants in the field of gymnastics and/or dance.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, volunteers and staff.

Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Knowledge of how to instruct gymnastics and/or dance including the rules and technique

High degree of Human Relations Skills.

Put the Metro Atlanta YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy into effect.

Pass the State of Georgia criminal background check every six months.

Provides instruction in gymnastic venues or dance movements.

Must attend all scheduled gymnastics meets.

Participates in special events and activities related to the gymnastics dept.

Maintain effective relationships with schools, parents, participants, and other groups.

Attends staff meetings and approved training as required.

May maintain attendance and other records.

Follows safety guidelines and responds to and reports incidents and accident.

When teaching classes, the instructor must inform all students of rules and regulations of the gymnastics program, in addition to the safety rules.

Arrive at designated time set by your director.

Keep attendance records for each class and evaluate the students on a regular basis.

Teach classes using the four value characteristics of the YMCA.

Teach proper techniques to the students and keep a positive environment. The teacher should not tolerate misbehavior and should teach their students proper behavior in the gym.

Must wear proper dress when teaching. (staff shirt must be worn at all times, shorts with no holes, sweat pants, hair pulled up and out of face and sneakers or no shoes) No mid drifts and no short shorts.

Report all injuries and incidents to the Gymnastics Coordinator and complete an incident/accident report.


Ability to move, set up and store equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Also needs to have the motor skills necessary to demonstrate specific techniques and skills required to master the sport.

Hours: Part-time

Salary: $9.35 - $12.48 per hour
