East Carolina University invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. This is an internal search. The preferred starting date is July 1, 2013 and the position is currently open. Screening for the position begins March 1, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled.
The Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication serves as the senior academic and administrative officer of the College. Reporting to the Provost & Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Dean will be charged with working closely with the School Directors to develop and maintain an effective collegial environment; provide effective fiscal management and acquire internal and external financial support for the College; support excellence in teaching, research/creative endeavors and service; facilitate collaboration between faculty members and among programs within the College and University; coordinate the College's efforts with schools, corporations, other universities and communities and state, federal and international agencies; and engage faculty, staff and students in developing a shared plan for the future of the College.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position include an earned terminal degree from an appropriately accredited institution in a discipline represented in the college, qualifications for appointment with permanent tenure at the rank of Professor, and significant administrative experience in a university setting.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with upper administration and with colleagues across other colleges, schools, and departments. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and organizational skills, a commitment to shared governance and diversity, experience in development and fundraising, the ability to establish and maintain relationships with the College's external constituents, and a commitment to professional and community service.
