Directs, facilitates, and integrates the administration of department functions to include the instructional, operational, and administrative program activities for all students enrolled in the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Charter School (DCJJCS) and the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (DCJJAEP) to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, and all mandated federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Detailed Description Plans and directs all educational services to include the Charter Schools and Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs, to ensure educational programs are integrated into the continuum of services. Coordinates departmental education activities with school districts within Dallas County, and monitors programs to ensure compliance with regulations and positive outcome for students. Develops and manages the DCJJCS and DCJJAEP budgets to include payments, reimbursements, auditing, and reconciliation.

Directs, reviews, approves, and participates in personnel related activities of education managers and supervisors to include: hiring staff, evaluating performance, conducting disciplinary actions, and providing direction in the absence of the managerial staff. Provides written monthly reports, briefings, and court orders to the Dallas County Juvenile Board and Dallas County Commissioners Court. Reviews and analyzes student attendance data, academic performance measures, results of testing, and other performance indicators to confirm performance. Plans, develops, and implements policies and procedures, establishing short/long range goals and objectives, and evaluating program activities to ensure compliance and internal controls for the DCJJCS and DCJJAEP.

Coordinates and ensures that all departmental educational service activities are integrated into every aspect of the Juvenile Department. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Business Management or in a job related field of study. Five (5) years of professional level work related experience, including four (4) years managerial experience.

Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must possess knowledge of practices and procedures of budgeting, contracts and grants management, procurement, educational services, and information systems technology. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. Must be a Certified Probation Officer or become certified within 6 months after employment. Standard office environment.
