The University of Florida seeks a Director for the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience (http://www.whitney.ufl.edu). The Laboratory is located south of St. Augustine on Florida’s beautiful Atlantic coast. The staff of the Laboratory comprises faculty, associates, students and visiting scientists. They rely increasingly on the tools of marine genomics to study marine model organisms in a variety of areas including the physiology and biochemistry of vision and olfaction; neurotransmitter physiology, pharmacology and evolution; the structure, function and evolution of ion channels; motor pattern generation; membrane transport systems; and gene regulation and phylogeny.
The Director will be responsible for providing scientific leadership for the Laboratory; promoting faculty development; securing necessary support for the research and educational infrastructure through grant acquisition and fund-raising; developing outreach and community relations; and for providing oversight of the day-to-day administration of the Whitney Laboratory. The Director will also be expected to maintain an active, funded research program. The Director will hold an academic appointment in a College appropriate to the candidate’s qualifications and expertise.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. with an internationally-recognized record of research achievement in an area related to the Lab’s research mission, current extramural funding, and the administrative experience necessary to warrant appointment at the level of Director.
