DIRECT MATERIALS BUYER(Job Number: 1300043)
The Direct Material Buyer has responsibility for making decisions involving commitment of funds affecting the GMS-MTV site within guidelines established by the Site Purchasing Manager. Buyer must maintain good working relationship with vendors and potential suppliers with respect to developing and improving sources of supply considering reliability, quality, and price. Buyer will serve as primary linkage between suppliers and users and facilities issue resolution and joint process improvement activities. Strong project management skills required to gain commitment and mobilize others within the department and cross-functionally, to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Demonstrates strong analytical and creative problem solving skills. Able to manage multiple priorities and use sound business judgement for decision making. Works with Global Procurement Category Leaders, BMS sister sites, and local personnel to proactively identify improvement opportunities in cost, quality, and service. Buyer should have effective oral and written communication to drive appropriate actions and communication across functional areas at all levels. Develops relationships with site customers to ensure Procurement is involved an early stage to influence the buying decision and optimize negotiating leverage. Buyer will establish strong working relationships with key customers (internal and external) and demonstrates accountability with a focus on customer service. Monitor and ensure compliance with preferred vendor usage. Buyer will proactively identify financial and/or operational risks and opportunities associated with category purchases (i.e. leveraging, supplier partnership, reverse auctions, tandem ordering) to optimize total value to BMS. Demonstrates proficiency in standard software applications e.g. SAP, MRP system, Microsoft Office Suite. Actively and effectively maintain and report on PPV favorability/unfavorability. Willingness to travel as needed (corporate, vendor visits, training, etc).
Bachelor's Degree or 5-7 years of experience required with at least 3-5 in purchasing/materials management or in positions directly related to the procurement needs of the site customer base (i.e., sales and marketing, research, finance support groups, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain etc.).
