DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS-MCCOOK, IL
The Director of Operations is responsible for all inbound, outbound, transportation and office activities for the assigned packaging and distribution center. This position has site accountability for the location, which includes safety and security. This also includes full cost center responsibility, with annual operating budget and cost containment goals. The Director is also responsible for process design and improvement utilizing Lean techniques and ISO methodologies.
Oversee intensive 300,000 sq. ft. fully-automated packaging and small pick warehouse / distribution operation which includes a management team and up to 140 associates. Direct day-to-day operations of this cross-functional distribution center staff, focused on safely delivering a competitive advantage to the sales organization through on-time, accurate, and efficient shipment of customer orders. This is in addition to managing facility costs and managing transportation costs with service levels.
Responsible for the hiring, training, and performance of all personnel. Create and maintain a well-trained staff that could be promoted through cross training and mentoring. Cascade organization strategy and goals through the function/work area to the individual level and ensure all employees understand how they can contribute to the operation's success. Enforce policies set forth by the corporation, working closely with senior management on all Human Resources issues.
Lead continual improvement in operational performance. Ensure optimal utilization of warehouse management systems – SAP WM. Participate and effectively implement "best practice" processes.
Monitor operations performance, overall and specifically by function and area. Track productivity data and implement programs for improvement. Maintain a high level of accuracy (99.5%) on all outbound shipments. Ensure all contractual metrics for inbound and outbound processing, inventory control, etc. are consistently met or exceeded. Ensure required daily reports are distributed on time, as scheduled. Produce performance reports and executive summary reports monthly.
Set strategic direction for all aspects of distribution operations in accordance with corporate and applicable business unit strategies and initiatives. Enhance customer service by proactively reviewing and communicating their operational needs.
Ensure compliance to safe work practices at all times. Conduct scheduled safety meetings with the shift managers and dock workers on a regular basis.
Operate in an efficient/cost-conscious manner so that all budgeted objectives are achieved.
Maintain a clean and organized facility. Manage the facilities housekeeping program to ensure all areas are continuously free of all debris.
Assist with market development planning and customer interaction.
Strong Computer literacy; ability to understand complex logistics data analysis and develop recommendations.
Proven ability to effectively lead and motivate large teams, leading by example and implementing difficult change initiatives.
Excellent project or program management skills.
Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Career progression that shows very strong tactical and strategic thinking skills.
10-15 years related work experience, must have significant distribution center and/or plant management experience.
Preferred candidate will have advanced technical or business degree, APICS certification, and/or knowledge of ERP/WMS parameter management.
Experience directly interacting with sales personnel and customers.
