HIV, Hepatitis B (HBV), and Hepatitis C (HCV) are key areas of focus for Bristol-Myers Squibb’s product portfolio and pipeline. The Director, Public Affairs, Virology is a key contributor to developing a strong presence for the company in Virology and developing strategic communications for the HIV, HBV and HCV brands. This role works closely with the global and U.S. commercial, development and matrix teams to help drive effective communications and PR initiatives that are aligned with the business and support the company’s corporate strategic messages. This role develops the strategic communications platform for the therapeutic area and brand initiatives, and is responsible for portfolio messaging that supports the broader corporate messages. This role has responsibility for global and U.S. Virology communications and works with regional and local communicators to support their efforts to successfully communicate brand and therapeutic area milestones.
The successful candidate is a critical thinker who can process information quickly and clearly to achieve goals; has demonstrated ability to work in a highly matrixed environment; has a successful record in issues and crisis management, with established media and opinion leader relationships and strong relationship management skills. This position has one direct report but will manage a broad internal stakeholder group to ensure integrated and coordinated communication plans.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree required, with a degree in communications or related field preferred. The ideal candidate must have more than 12 years of experience in communications, public relations or related field; possess excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate a proven ability to drive strategic communication initiatives aligned with broader company objectives; and be able to quickly learn the business and operate within a complex, fast paced and changing environment. Strategic, conceptual thinking and strong interpersonal skills required. A strategic communications background in healthcare is preferred.
