The Apprentice II is an entry-level, temporary position responsible for learning and performing tasks associated with operating electronic equipment associated with worldwide distribution of video, audio and data in the Encompass Technical Operations Center. The Apprentice is responsible for monitoring the NASCAR events primarily on weekends. They will report as well as log any audio or video anomalies observed during each event. Apprentices are required to perform these various responsibilities for the purpose of developing the required skill sets to work in the media services industry. Apprenticeships will continue for a maximum of 24 months. A standard workweek will be 32 hours, with a maximum 40-hour week.
Work toward the mastery of all learning objectives for the TOC area. May include some or all of the following duties:
Monitor the NASCAR events primarily on weekends.
Report as well as log any audio or video anomalies observed during each event.
Perform Analog and Digital Satellite Uplinks and Downlinks.
Encode audio and video material for “live” Webcasts and video-on-demand applications in the appropriate formats: Windows Media and RealMedia.
Perform basic editing for encoding jobs using NT workstations and Macintosh.
Transfer encoded material to an FTP server or streaming media server.
Perform Satellite Crosspoles in compliance with FCC Guidelines.
Operate various tape machines
Operate routers, patchbays and timecode generators
Monitor Network & Occasional feeds for quality control
Have the desire and ability to stay current with the evolving technology in the rapidly changing communications industry.
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Completed a high school diploma or GED
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Basic computer proficiency
Strong communication skills, written and oral
Must be at least 18 years of age
College degree in a Communications related field preferred, but not required.
Broadcast experience preferred, but not required.
Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Work Environment: The nature of this position requires the employee to work in a highly technical environment. This position requires the ability to work at a fast-paced and potentially high-stress level. From time to time medium lifting will be required.
