Position Summary

The University of Connecticut, Department of Animal Science, is seeking applications for a full time, position of Dairy Manufacturing Assistant Manager (UCP V) who under the direction of the Dairy Manufacturing Unit Manager will be responsible for the production of ice cream, cheese, yogurt and other dairy products produced in UConn Dairy Manufacturing Unit. Must be willing to work irregular hours.

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist with the overall operation of the University of Connecticut Dairy Manufacturing Unit. Supervise and train student employees. Assist with the development of new flavors of ice cream and varieties of cheese along with other dairy products. Complete all aspects of producing various dairy products including ice cream, cheese, and yogurt. Ensure and maintain safe and sanitary food processing and service equipment operation. Requisition supplies and maintain proper inventories of ingredients and finished product(s). Maintain required records and prepare reports as needed. Perform other duties as needed or as assigned by the Manager and Department Head.


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in food science, nutrition or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; 6 months to two years relevant experience; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong supervisory and personnel skills; good customer relations skills and interpersonal skills; knowledge of food ordering, storage and inventory control; knowledge of food processing, sanitation and service equipment operation and maintenance; knowledge of food product planning and quantity food preparation; ability to deal effectively with public, students, faculty, staff and external agencies; willingness and ability to work irregular and flexible hours.

Other Desirable Qualifications: Ability to teach food processing, safety and sanitation principles and methods; three or more years relevant work experience; experience in developing new varieties of food products; possess or ability to obtain a State of Connecticut milk pasteurizer's license within first year of hire.

Appointment Terms

This is a full time, end-date (annual) appointment that is subject to annual renewal dependent upon funding. Salary will be commensurate with successful candidate's background and experience.
