This position will provide data acquisition and instrumentation engineering expertise in support of multi-program structural strength test activities. Skills required to support this task include knowledge of data acquisition and instrumentation systems and devices: specifically application, set up, and operation rather than system development. The selected candidate must have the ability to conceptualize, assemble, checkout, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain data acquisition and instrumentation systems that measure pressure, temperature, loads, and deflections during structural testing.
In addition, the selected candidate will coordinate with NASA project level customers across organizations to ensure mission success, and work with a large team of engineers and designers to:
Review test facility drawings and specifications.
Review test requirements.
Coordinate with personnel in related tasks to resolve technical problems.
Review test implementation plans.
Develop and review facility activation and operation procedures.
Support anomaly resolution.
Review test data.
Prepare work requests to authorize data acquisition and instrumentation systems assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware and software for test support.
Develop data acquisition and instrumentation system implementation plans.
Develop procedures for activation and operation of the test facility data systems.
Support activation of the test facility data systems.
BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years applicable experience.
Additional qualifications include:
At least 2 years of relevant experience in the buildup, operation, and maintenance of data acquisition and instrumentation systems.
A thorough understanding on the proper use and operation of instrumentation (thermocouples, resistance temperature devices, pressure transducers, accelerometers, and strain gages) in hazardous environments associated with structural testing.
Experience with the hazards and required precautions for working with hydraulic and pressurized systems is highly desired.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to walk between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%). Stairs or elevators can gain access.
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (< 15%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
