The Data Architect, Business Intelligence serves as a Data Architect for Macys.com Analytical & DW Data Architecture, Systems Engineering and Integration. The Data Architect builds and refines data architecture in a complex distributed database environment, participates in data architecture, analysis, and design, focusing on and leading the areas of data migration and data integration architecture, for the ecommerce BI Data Architecture program. The candidate has demonstrated accomplishment of data architecture and data management assignments that required wide range knowledge of requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled.
The Retail Data Services eCommerce Support team is looking for an individual to serve as BI domain data architect for eCommerce information.
The Data Architect is the champion of the Analytical Data and structures it to meet the business needs.
This individual is responsible for leading the data modelers in the team & also will be directly responsible for the analysis, definition, review and design of consistent regional data architecture including alignment with enterprise data architecture, standards and policies as well provide guidance and mentoring on specific implementations.
The RDS team is responsible for Data Integration, Analytics & Reporting.
It builds & supports the tools and systems to support business intelligence, performance management and analytics functions. This individual will be required to collaborate with business partners, Architects, Analysts, Development teams, and leadership; therefore must be capable of operating at multiple levels of abstraction and have the communications skills to operate comfortably at all levels of a technology organization.
Work with the Business Intelligence team to develop a Retail specific BI Platform that conforms to consistent methodologies, standards and industry best practices.
Participate in defining and documenting overall data architectures for custom business applications.
Own, develop and nurture the logical & physical DW data model to support macys.com.
Architect, develop and ensure effective deployment of business functional specific semantic layer.
Lead the development of scalable data architectures for all macys.com data assets including operational data stores and the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
Lead architecture sub-groups to vet the designs in order to ensure compliance with best practices of suitability, performance, scalability, and re-use.
Have oversight of the development of Source-to-Target mappings for data flowing into the Data Warehouse using ETL tool frameworks.
Lead efforts to develop and maintain Enterprise Data Dictionary so it becomes the reference for standard data definitions for data/analytics consumption.
Ensure Data Quality as a discipline is developed and implemented across all the systems to ensure trust in relying on data to drive business decisions.
Provide technical leadership to other members of the development team and project managers in a positive manner to deliver on-time and above standard applications for our clients.
Participate in product evaluations, RFP’s, POC’s and business decisions to ensure fit and scale into the platform and the organization.
Extensive experience with very large data repositories (10+ terabytes).
Proven ability to architect and engineer business intelligence data model from group up
Ability to recognize and influence the upstream and downstream impacts of logic and system changes
Minimum 10 years of experience in
modeling for software development, database and Business Intelligence Solutions.
Minimum 10 years of experience in
warehouse modeling tools such as Erwin/ER Studio or comparable toolset
Minimum 10 years of experience in performance monitoring and optimization
Solid knowledge of
from source to target
An interactive and proactive leadership style and assistance role for project implementation
Must be highly motivated, a quick learner, to work independently or on a team and drive solutions with minimal supervision.
Experience with full Software Development Lifecycle methodologies.
Experience with Agile a Plus.
Must be flexible and capable of juggling multiple priorities and willing to do what it takes to meet critical deadlines.
Strong written communication skills including design documentation, proof of concept and prototype analysis and documentation.
Expert level understanding of relational database concepts, dimensional database concepts and database architecture and design.
Experience with DB2 Warehouse edition, Oracle, Teradata or other large scale data warehouse appliances.
Deep understanding of data warehouse approaches, industry standards and industry best practices.
Very competent SQL skills for DB2, Oracle, SQL Server & Teradata platforms.
Retail data and analytics knowledge a plus
Experience data modeling for columnar platforms (e.g., Sybase IQ/Vertica/ParAccel) is a big plus
Exposure to Hadoop a plus
