DATA ARCHITECT
Job Description:
The Data Architect owns all aspects of the data architecture within the IMVU back-end umbrella which supports business and product data analytics.
This individual will be responsible for building out our world-class data warehouse and related systems. Responsibilities include design, development, and support of big data systems like Hadoop, real-time analytic services (e.g., financial recommendations, security, privacy, personalization), data warehouse, data visualization, and metadata as well as reporting capabilities (canned and ad hoc).
The data includes quantitative data (financial data, clickstream, purchase transactions, demographic, product usage), qualitative data (A/B tests and experiments), unstructured data as well as data from enterprise applications like ERP and CRM systems.
So, what will you do?
The Data Architect will provide technical leadership to a team of engineers with development and operations expertise.
Define the overall data architecture for data warehousing and reporting to enable (1) more compelling and insightful business intelligence (2) more compelling and impactful usage analysis and (3) machine learning systems that move the business. This will require solving some fundamental and highly challenging issues in terms of the timely capture and usage of data, what tools and technologies we should deploy, and how best to integrate multiple data input systems.
Build all of the critical data and analytics capabilities including tools, processes, technologies, training, etc. that will be needed to ensure that the entire company is moving aggressively forward. A key challenge will be to build capabilities that can grow to suport not only traditional marketing, gaming systems and a commerce based web-site, but also an entire virtual economy with fraud systems and rapidly growing mobile apps.
Develop data infrastructures like Hadoop & Hive and integrate services like web site metrics to manage Big Data. Develop real-time services to leverage analytics insights using technologies such as R, including development of machine learning systems.
Requirements:
Below are some of the key experiences or qualifications that we would ideally like to see in the candidate. Candidates with a subset of these experiences will be actively considered.
Deep mastery of data architecture - Candidate must have a mastery of a wide range of data architectures including big data technologies like Hadoop, real-time analytics systems (e.g., personalization), data warehouse, master data management (MDM), unstructured data and metadata in order to best define the appropriate data architecture that will address unique business and product analytic needs. Candidate must have demonstrated an ability to diagnose a company's needs in these areas and build best in class capabilities to meet those needs.
Strong foundational knowledge and experience with distributed systems and computing systems in general.
Hands-on engineering skills - interest and ability to roll up sleeves and work along with other key engineers in building some components of our leading edge data systems.
Proven leadership and influence skills - This individual will be driving a fundamental transformation in the way data is leveraged. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to lead change across a broader organization through influence.
Broad understanding of multiple technologies - These include NOSQL (Hadoop, Cassandra, HBase), DBMS (Oracle, Netezza, MySQL, SQL Server, Hyperion Essbase), ETL (Informatica, Ascential, Ab Initio), Reporting, OLAP (Hyperion, SSAS), performance tuning for high-end hardware and storage (HP, Sun, data warehouse appliances), OS (Solaris, HP-UX, Windows, Linux). Experience dealing with 100TB+ data sets. At least 5 years of dimensional modeling experience and two or more implementations of data warehouse projects with raw data volume greater than 10 TB.
Working knowledge of Application Server technologies to enable data services in support of products.
Demonstrated expertise in various languages like PHP and Python, with an ability and desire to learn new languages quickly
B.S./B.A. degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or other technical fields. Higher level degree is strongly preferred.
