Data Architect’s Job Description:|
The Data Architect will be a focal point for understanding data from the corporate perspective and managing data so it can be understood uniformly throughout the organization. The Data Architect will expand the company’s use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives and achieve this by strategically designing, developing and implementing data models for enterprise-level applications and systems. This individual will utilize a range of design techniques across transactional and business intelligence data domains and will serve as the primary advocate of data modeling methodologies and data processing leading practices for the enterprise.
7 – 10 years experience in the analysis and design of data models at the conceptual/logical levels and for the maintenance of existing enterprise models.
3 – 5 years expertise in Data Architecture (DA) and DA practices.
3 – 5 years in Data modeling (Logical / Physical), and Data Quality Profiling tools (such as IBM Data Quality Stage Information Server, etc.)
Demonstrated capabilities in conceptual analysis, problem solving, and data analysis, with ability to lead and facilitate business requirements and data analysis and modeling sessions.
Solid understanding of Data Management and Metadata Management process and principles with ability to effectively communicate and sell those ideas to others.
Expertise in logical and physical database design, performance optimization, federated and parallel data management, high availability and capacity planning.
Expertise in data loading, data partitioning, data backup, indexing, access control.
Deep understanding of DB2 and/or Oracle and issues in using them in high data volume on transactional workloads
Understanding of Mainframe IMS/ VSAM data structure
Deep understanding of performance issues at the operating system and storage levels
Good understanding of tools for ETL, reporting
Ability to provide knowledge transfer through documentation and training.
Experience in enterprise scale reporting, data warehouse design and implementation, and data analytics a plus.
Cognos experience a plus.
Understanding of Data Modeling in a multi-tenant environment a plus.
Proven ability to influence technical and business leaders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced skills in data design, logical modeling and physical implementation of relational and dimensional databases, primarily using DB2 and Oracle.
Ability to teach new techniques to project level designers.
