Data Manager, Center on Teaching and Learning

The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) seeks a motivated data manager to join its educational research team and contribute to advanced data management activities. Applicants for the position should feel comfortable working within a team environment, and providing consultation on data management issues for externally-funded projects. Candidates will demonstrate high-level skills in data cleaning and maintenance, statistical programming, and data management procedures. Preferred candidates will have some experience working with longitudinal data sets, particularly those in developmental psychology or education.
This individual will report to Director(s)of Data Analysis/Management, and individual Principal Investigators as necessary
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with analysts, data management team, and project coordinators to clean and maintain data and database integrity.
Merge, create, and clean large (N > 10,000), multi-year datasets.
Work with project coordination team to prepare data files to assist with data collection procedures.
Communicate with district data representatives to coordinate data transfers within specific timeframes.
Document data sets and syntax.
Develop and present written summaries of data analyses and create basic data integrity reports.
Code, prepare, and submit data for standard kinds of social science analysis using statistical program packages.
Write programs to manipulate data with SPSS, primarily, and other statistical packages as needed. Run descriptive statistics and other basic procedures independently. Run more advanced data analysis procedures under supervision.
Prepare database cleaning tasks for other members of project assessment team (i.e., research assistants) and provide direct supervision as needed.
Work with other members of the data analysis team and the DAT leader to compile quarterly reports that can be shared with statisticians, project leaders, PIs and other team members to communicate the status and quality of the data
Develop and work to update data dictionaries for assigned projects, to document all project data and to keep track of Output files for analysis
Perform other duties as required or requested by project staff.
Minimum Qualifications :
Master’s degree in education, psychology, or related field
Fluent skills with SPSS programming and at least one other statistics package(preferably R/S+ or SAS)
Graduate coursework or equivalent training in statistics, research design, and/or specific technique (e.g., HLM, and/or SEM, and/or LGM)
Experience with Excel functions and programming
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds
Successful completion of a criminal background check
At least 2 years of experience with educational data sets involving student performance data
Leadership experience with educational research involving data teams, etc.
