AWS Database Services is currently looking for a talented Oracle database administrator with 7+ years’ experience for its Seattle office. The DBA will perform administration and engineering for multiple production databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fast-paced complex distributed database environments supporting primarily OLTP on a UNIX/Linux platform. Successful candidates will have the ability to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure.

Responsibilities - Database Operations
Test, validate and implement performance and resource optimization improvements in consultation with AWS development Teams
Maintain development and production environments. Monitor and maintain database security and database software
Database & Application( SQL & PL/SQL ) performance tuning
Backup and recovery (RMAN and traditional)
Root cause analysis of production-related database issues
On-call for production databases - daily maintenance, monitoring, problem resolution and internal customer/dev support
Experience managing servers in large-scale, geographically diverse environments.
Deep knowledge of Oracle internals.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities - Database Engineering
Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams
Design, develop, and implement Oracle database instances for the development and production environments

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of Oracle DBA experience on Unix/Linux
Experience with 10g for at least 2 to 3 years on Unix/Linux
Experience with Oracle data guard and replication
Strong working knowledge of Oracle DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization, and use of hints)
Strong query and database tuning skills
Experience in a 24X7 production environment
Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL skills
Fast troubleshooting and resolution skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA and application teams
BS in computer science or related field

Preferred Qualifications

Detailed understanding & experience of Linux operating systems and kernels.
Experience in consultancy role, assisting and mentoring junior DBA staff
Strong working knowledge of Oracle DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization, and use of hints)
Strong query and database tuning skills
Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
Extensive UNIX shell scripting, PLSQL, and SQL skills.
Highly motivated to solve problems efficiently.
Fast troubleshooting and resolution skills
Extensive experience with high-volume OLTP database systems.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA and application teams.
