Job Descriptions:
Position Summary:
Assist in the design, development, operations and maintenance of Applied Discovery’s database and indexing systems. This includes working with Development and Quality Assurance on design and schema considerations, configuration of production servers and maintaining the highest levels of systems availability. Also includes emergency support of production systems problems.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the physical implementation, performance, integrity, security, documentation, and support of the database and indexing environment in Applied Discovery’s hosting data centers, and production data centers.

Provide consultation for internal development groups in the design and development of large databases.

Assist in identifying, evaluating and recommending new technologies for the RDBMS and indexing environment.

Responsible for setting up a fault-tolerant environment and interfaces with other key systems.

Work with developers to establish/create production support cross-communication among the Development, Quality Assurance, and Production Operations organization.

Responsible for installing database and indexing software plus related products to support release/production environments, as well as customer server setup and configuration.

Develop physical data models from logical designs.

Define storage, view, synonym, and index strategies that assure quick and reliable query results.

Define a backup and recovery strategies for database and indexing systems.

Develop policies and procedures for maintaining the database and indexing environments after implementation.

Required Experience:
1 - 3 yeas of prior SQL Server (Microsoft) DBA experience.

1 – 3 years of MySQL, PostgreSQL or other open source database experience.

1 – 3 years of Linux administration experience.

1 – 3 years of FAST and / or Lucene indexing experience preferred.

Experience in monitoring and administration of database and indexing systems, including but not limited to: performance optimization and general health checks.

Significant experience in DTS / SSIS and backup strategies.

Understanding of monitoring and logging techniques, as well as an understanding of how to run databases that are 500 GB +.

Experience supporting database clusters.

Thorough knowledge of hardware requirements for database systems. Experience with san storage systems recommended.

Ability to write reports and queries is required.

Knowledge of Windows Server environment.

Knowledge of local networking and TCP/IP.

Good troubleshooting skills.

Good organizational skills with respect to time management and change management.

Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.

4-year technical degree desired.

Availability for after hours support and escalations.
