Apsalar is looking for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA to manage its farm of PostgreSQL databases in a high performance environment. The job breakdown is 50% DBA, 50% systems engineering, i.e. while the emphasis is primarily on the database side of things, we are looking for someone who understands the entire systems stack, not just a narrow specialist.

We process billions of database transactions per day.

Manage and monitor production databases

Work with developers on tuning query performance

Automate operations

Establish and test backup and DR procedures

At least 2 years experience as principal DBA for production PostgreSQL databases

Experience with PL/pgsql

PostgreSQL performance tuning experience

Experience with londiste

Strong scripting, automation and and devops skills

Experience with PostgreSQL HA solutions

Experience with PostgreSQL replication

Bonus Points:
Experience with PL/Python

Experience with AWS

Experience with DTrace

Experience with PL/Proxy and Londiste

Experience with ZFS, NetApp filers or other copy on write platforms

Experience with Zabbix

Capacity planning skills

Disaster recovery planning skills

Experience with other DBs, e.g. Oracle or MySQL

Some proficiency with bash and Python. Other languages "doubleplusgood"

Top of the line hardware for gear heads. Disk I/O subsystems clocked at > 100k write ops/sec. Full SSD storage and 10 gigabit network deployment for databases
