This is a MS SQL Server DBA role largely responsible for providing reliable, resilient, high performance production database services to power Groundspeak’s websites, mobile gaming platforms and internal business applications. This is a production DBA role which requires a commitment on your part as well as ours. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role include setting up and managing SQL server, managing database level security, performance monitoring and troubleshooting, owning, tracking, and resolving database incidents, reviewing alerts and reports daily (such as backups, maintenance and monitoring), and responding proactively to resolve them.

This role requires a service oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership, and the desire to collaborate and communicate with other highly skilled and motivated co-workers. You will be required to focus on managing and resolving issues and projects in collaboration with your co-workers. You must establish and maintain excellent communications with internal stakeholders to keep them apprised of and involved in their requests and projects. You will proactively initiate, communicate, and perform changes to production systems, escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within expected or reasonable time frames. You will work with the technology teams to propose and implement projects to promote reliability, resiliency, performance, and scalability in our database environments.

5+ years of experience with Database Administration for MS SQL Server.
Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
Experiencing using native and third party tools to monitor and report on database status, uptime, and performance.
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server.
Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts.
Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory and proper disk configurations.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Candidates would also meet the following criteria:
A Solid understanding of Windows Server, security delegation, and Windows security principles.
Involvement in the in MSSQL community, active in forums or newsgroups, or other SQL community involvement.
Certification is a plus.
Previous experience in a teaching or volunteering role.
Familiarity with NoSQL, SQL in the cloud, especially Azure.
