Position Overview

In this newly created position within Corporate Finance, the Database Administrator will be a member of the Corporate Finance Information Technology (IT) team of Hay Group, reporting to the Director Corporate Finance IT. The candidate will join Hay Group at an exciting time as we are implementing and rolling out new systems globally. This individual will work with global Hay Group peers and will be an instrumental part in these changing times.

This position is responsible for ensuring the control, integrity, and accessibility of the database file structure of one or more databases with multiple concurrent users.

The ideal candidate will have a high degree of technical proficiency in the design of database applications; knowledge of the interrelationships between databases and the organization's other systems. Critical skills for the role include strong intellectual abilities, problem-solving capabilities, business acumen, and analytic and conceptual thinking skills. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and the capacity to work within global, multi-cultural teams. Qualified candidates will have 3 – 7 years of progressive experience with database management and 2 -4 years experience with finance or accounting systems.

Function/Role:

This position is responsible for ensuring the control, integrity, and accessibility of the database file structure of one or more databases with multiple concurrent users.

Approve database specifications, install and test databases and associated products, provide fault isolation and resolution, design the distribution of database resources, provide physical modeling and design services, tune database applications for optimum performance, and implement disaster recovery and contingency plans.

Consistent with all roles within Corporate Finance, it is anticipated that this position may provide support beyond the scope of the DBA role on an as needed basis.

Representative Actions:
  • Provides technical expertise on the database management system to assigned team and assistance to other IT personnel.
  • Insures appropriate linkages to existing database applications and to other data processing systems (e.g. business applications.
  • Insures adequate recovery procedures are included in all database designs.
  • Installs database software and upgrade systems as necessary.
  • Develops and monitors procedures for updating the data dictionary
  • Directs the training of user groups in the protocols involved in updating and accessing the database.
  • Monitors database transactions to insure correct usage of the database.
  • Provides technical assistance to less experienced database analysts in the identification and resolution of complex database design and maintenance problems.
  • Create and maintain SQL databases, code stored procedures, triggers and DTS & batch jobs as required.
  • Assists or conducts data conversions.
Qualifications:
  • High degree of technical proficiency in design of database applications; knowledge of the interrelationships between databases and the organization's other systems.
  • Relevant bachelor's degree and 4+ years IT experience with database management.
  • Experience in the following Hay standard tools: MS SQL Server 2000/2005/2008, Microsoft Office, Visual Basic/.NET, Windows Server 2003/2008.
  • Experience or knowledge (2-4 years) in finance or accounting systems. Familiarity or experience working with accounting, billing and financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Strong problem solving as well as analytical and conceptual thinking capabilities.
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex challenges.
