Summary of Job Description

We’re looking for database administrators who have a passion for designing, building and administering data systems and applications handling large amounts of data, developing new methodologies to obtain greater value out of the existing data sets, harnessing the power of multiple technologies to mold into one cohesive force, and the patience to build it right.

As a database administrator within the Mandiant Computer Incident Response Team (MCIRT), you will interact with internal information security practitioners who deliver security assessment, incident response, and other host and network-based security services to a broad array of clients (Fortune 500, Federal government agencies, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design, build, maintain and administer RDBMS and NoSQL databases to support multiple applications with large data sets
Optimize performance of data heavy applications through index management and query tuning
Assist in the development of software and tools that use effective schema to improve analyst and customer workflows
Assist with the integration of new and existing data sources, systems, and technologies into a cohesive system

Required Technical Skills

An expert in supporting traditional RDBMS (PostgreSQL and MySQL)
Significant experience in automation of administrative tasks such as maintenance, monitoring and data backups
Strong understanding of non-traditional data stores such as NoSQL databases
Strong understanding of Windows and Unix operating systems and command line tools

Other Required Skills

Exceptional inter-team skills to help drive consistent data modeling/architecture across multiple services and geographies
Ability to document and explain technical details clearly and concisely

Additional Skills that Will Distinguish Candidates

Experience with programming languages such as C/C++, Bash, Python, Perl and JavaScript
Background in operational information security disciplines (e.g., incident response, security infrastructure management, or monitoring services)
Background in systems administration for Unix based environments


BS or equivalent degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
5+ years’ experience in hands-on technical work
