DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for performing activities necessary for managing and securing the University's administrative database systems including database backups and restores, devising and executing recovery procedures, and monitoring and tuning system performance.

This positions develops database standards, documentation, security, and authorization procedures necessary to support and implement the Information Technology Department's strategic goals.

DUTIES

Database Management and Security:
  • Enforces University policies for data management and integrity.
  • Monitors end-user usage of client-server applications.
  • Develops and tests plans for disaster recovery of mission-critical databases.
  • Establishes backup and replication plans to minimize data loss and system downtime.
  • Hardens database to prevent unauthorized access to data and systems.
  • Documents all security plans and procedures related to administrative database systems.
  • Management of database accounts, authorizations and privileges.
Responsible for University database and administrative server software:
  • Installs, configures and troubleshoots database software.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots databases for potential or existing performance or security problems, capacity requirements and makes modifications/ adjustments to ensure availability of data.
  • Installs, configures and troubleshoots administrative server software (i.e., PowerFAIDS, Raiser's Edge, Agresso Business World, GE Centricity etc.)
  • Installs, configures and administers SharePoint sites
  • Maintains production and test/development server environments.
Provide management reports from the Agresso database:
  • Create and/or modify reports using Crystal Reports, Agresso Browser or other report writing software.
  • Supervise the development, implementation, and assist users in the operation of report writing using a variety of tools.
  • Assist end-users in report writing as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field required; an equivalent of work experience and education may be considered.

Experience:
  • Three to five years of experience working managing a relational database. SQL programming and scripting experience using Microsoft SQL (2000-2012), Oracle and/or MySQL.
  • Previous experience supporting ERP systems preferred. Knowledge of best practices as they relate to database management and security are a must.
  • Experience with Windows 2000/2003/2008/2012 servers including hardware and software installations, experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Active Directory; knowledge of Novell Open Enterprise Server, Linux or other platforms is a plus.
Licensure and/or Certification:
  • MCTS - DBA (Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist for DBA) certification desired.
Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient with the MS Office Suite, SharePoint Visio and MS project
  • Knowledge of and experience with database tools such as Quest and Crystal Reports
  • Knowledge of and experience with Cisco Networks, Nimble Storage, VEAM Backup, NCentral and Fortigate desired
  • SQL programming knowledge
  • Applied knowledge in database backup and recovery procedures and software tools
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
